MĀORI MEDIUM CLASSES: WHITIREIA

  • Our tamariki are learning in contexts within Te Ao Māori. TMOA  http://www.tmoa.tki.org.nz/Te-Marautanga-o-Aotearoa 
  • Teachers speak in te reo Māori for 50% to 80% of the day - Level 2.
  • Literacy and Mathematics are taught in te reo Māori.  Student achievement is in relation to Ngā Whanaketanga Rūmaki Māori, as distinct from the English National Standards.
  • Te reo Pākehā (English) will be taught as a  learning area in Years 6 - 8 classes, however not reported against National Standards.
ENGLISH MEDIUM CLASSES: PUAKA

  • Classes follow the New Zealand Curriculum document. NZC
  • Teachers use te reo Māori for 30% - 50% of the school day - Level 3.
  • Literacy and Mathematics are delivered in English.  Student achievement is reported according to the English National Standards.
  • Te reo Māori is taught as a learning area, with focus on oracy.
